Off the cuff: It was good to see Carolina get back in the win column and to do it in convincing fashion. They aren't exactly back to the days when the fans could have fun watching the deep subs play but after the 11-0 run late in the first half the game wasn't in doubt either. Seth Trimble's play should light a fire under Caleb Love, who he replaced, during the game-deciding run. Love was a plus-one when he was in the game - meaning that the Heels scored one more point than Georgia Tech when he played. On the other hand, the Tar Heels outscored the Jackets by 15 when Trimble was in the game. Trimble didn't shoot well, going just one of five with four points, but he did dish out three assists, got two rebounds and came up with a steal in less than 15 minutes of game time. Another freshman, Jalen Washington, saw his first action as a Tar Heel after an injury-riddled beginning to his college career. He played less than three minutes and scored a basket on his only shot. In the lockerroom after the game, the UNC players cheered for his "season-high" two points. There is a lot of excitement about his future in a Tar Heel uniform. He can run the floor, he can play inside and he can hit from outside. Along with Tyler Nickel and Puff Johnson, the bench is starting to make a bit of an impact. D'Marco Dunn had just started to impress when he went down with a broken hand. Once he comes back, there would be five guys the Heels can go to consistently to give the starters a rest. Starters Leaky Black and R.J. Davis each played about 35 minutes against Georgia Tech while all the starters played more than 30 minutes.
