Off the cuff: Against Georgia Tech, North Carolina led most of the game and lost. This time, against Notre Dame, Carolina trailed much of the game and found a way to win. The Tar Heels trailed 26-19 after one of Notre Dame's 11 three pointers and trailed 57-50 after one of Laszewski's seven threes. Freshman Day'ron Sharpe, starting in place of senior Garrison Brooks, worked hard inside for the Heels to pull the Heels ahead when they got behind. Carolina pulled in 21 offensive rebounds compared to just three for the Irish and the Tar Heels outrebounded Notre Dame overall by a 48-27 margin. When a poorly worded question by a sports reporter was misunderstood by Coach Roy Williams, the coach dropped a very rare cuss word. He's not as saintly as Coach Smith was but you don't expect an F-bomb from the golly-gee whiz Williams. After the news conference, the UNC Network post-game reporter said,"Live radio sometimes can get a little dicey and so if there were something we could do to curtail some of the language we heard believe you me we would do it." The reporter was trying to say that some of the players had said that they weren't getting the ball inside to the big guys enough. But he used the word "complained" and to Coach Williams seemed to be saying that the players wanted to shoot the ball themselves rather than getting the ball down low to the likes of Sharpe and Brooks. Coach Williams said, "Oh, I was getting ready to tell you to go back to the f*ckin' first grade and read your notes." |
